What to Bring to Undū Coaching…

You don’t need to arrive knowing what you want.

Sometimes people come to coaching with a clearly articulated objective:

  • I want to change careers.

  • I want to make a decision.

  • I want to stop procrastinating.

  • I want to be more organized.

  • I want to be more productive.

Sometimes those wants end up being accurate, sometimes they don’t.

You can arrive here not knowing, and we can figure it out together.

Maybe you feel something is off, but you can’t quite name it. Maybe you’re overwhelmed, disappointed, unsatisfied, or feeling like you should be happy, should be able to figure out how to address those feelings, shouldn’t be disappointed. Then what? You go to strategies that have worked for you in the past.

Maybe those strategies don’t fit you anymore.

You are invited to land here with:

  • Something isn’t working.

  • I can’t keep doing this.

  • I thought I wanted this, and now I have it and it’s not what I hoped it would be.

  • I don’t know what I want anymore.

  • I’m doing everything I’m supposed to, and my life doesn’t feel like mine.

Because often, the problem isn’t that you don’t know the answer. It’s that you haven’t explored the real questions.

We tend to believe we should be able to figure our sh*t out on our own. That belief is unreasonable and untenable. That deeply ingrained belief coupled with introspection alone, often traps us inside the very assumptions, narratives, and attentional patterns we need to examine. Much of the mental processing involved in our judgments, attitudes, motives and behavior is not directly available to conscious introspection. That’s why it’s so easy to get stuck here.

It’s the old adage: You don’t know what you don’t know.

Here’s an example:

You think: I need to be more productive. So you ask: How can I become more productive? You organize around productivity. You spend a lot of time and energy on that: changing routines; being harder on yourself; typing stuff into a spreadsheet; feeling bad that none of these things actually help you feel better.

In contrast:

You think: I keep coming back to the idea that I need to be more productive. We explore: What does “productivity” mean to you? What do you want it do for you? What narratives come up when you are “not productive?” What strategies have worked for you before? What made you feel those strategies “worked” for you? What’s different now?

We question the rules and assumptions behind what you think you need, and we get a more accurate read on the actual problem. You align with reality. You get clarity. You create the conditions necessary for a solution to emerge.

This is what we do in a Clarity Session. 90 minutes dedicated to you. You come muddled. We partner to get at what’s really going on. You leave with a new insight, and a new way forward.
